For most college dorms, the bed size is Twin XL to accommodate taller students. This means when you shop for bed sheets, you need to look for the ones that are Twin XL. Regular Twin size bed sheet will not be able to fit the mattress. Also, it is highly recommended to use a duvet cover with your comforter. A duvet cover covers the actual comforter and therefore both protects the comforter and decorates the bed. Since the first a few months of the semester are in the summer/early fall, it will be pretty hot to sleep at night. Therefore, it is better to prepare for a lightweight comforter than a heavy one. A lightweight comforter is easy to carry and you can always add a layer of blanket to the top if it gets cold, but it does not work the other way around. Having a heavy weight comforter will be very nice in the winter time, but you will most likely have a hard time during the summer nights.
